Welcome to the Library in Johnson City, Texas!

Phase Two Library Opening

The Library will continue to be open with limited hours with an additional two hours in the evening on Tuesdays.  The temporary hours are: 

Monday 9:00 – 5:00

Tuesday 9:00 – 7:00

Wednesday 9:00 – 5:00

Thursday 9:00 – 5:00

Friday 9:00 – 5:00

Saturday 9:00 – 2:00

Children and teenagers are allowed in the library Tuesday – Saturday but the children’s play area will be closed. To keep exposure at a minimum, children will be asked to stay in the children’ area.  At risk individuals are recommended to come Mondays when children are not present. 

Library Programs with 10 or less attendees may resume on a case by case basis.  Contact the library for more information.  Our meeting rooms will remain closed for organizations outside of the library. 

The computer Lab will be open but limited to four people at a time to enable social distancing.  Children's computers are limited to three in use at a time.

Hand sanitizer is available for all patrons and staff.  We request that everyone who enters sanitize or wash their hands and use a face mask while in the library.

Staff will clean on a 2–4 hour schedule, wear masks and gloves when working with patrons, and maintain social distancing.  All returned items will be held for 2 days before they are reshelved.

All precautions will stay in effect until further notice.

Johnson City Library Receives Funding to Provide Digital Skills Training

 The American Library Association (ALA) announced that the Johnson City Library has been selected to participate in Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, an initiative of ALA and the Public Library Association (PLA), sponsored by Grow With Google, the tech company’s economic opportunity initiative. The library will use the funding to offer four programs:Jobs on Google Search  May 19, 12:00 noon- 1 pm Edit Your Resume  May 27, 5:30-6:30 pm Write a Business Plan  June 4, 10-11 am Get Your Business Online is June 13, 10-11 am The library was awarded $1000 to hire trained instructors and purchase materials for the programs.  The classes will be in person and by video conference that can be accessed by computer or by phone. This program is funded by Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, which was created so local libraries can combine their own program offerings with Grow with Google training materials to offer community workshops or other activities aimed at empowering small businesses to grow online or assisting job seekers to prepare for and find work.  Through this initiative, Google aims to help everyone across America access the best training and tools to grow their skills, careers, and businesses. Grow With Google has made a commitment to deliver free, in-person workshops for job seekers, small businesses, and library patrons in all 50 states.Our library is honored to bring this opportunity to our community. While access to our library books is limited for now, please utilize our collection of ebooks and audio books.  To access Libby follow these directions:

  1. Download the Libby app from the Apple or Google Play store
  2. Open the app
  3. Follow the promts from Libby to access your account
  4. Search for Johnson City Library (Central Texas Digital Consortium)
  5. Select Johnson City Library to sign up with your library card
  6. Enter your library card number followed by your phone number.
  7. Now you can browse books! click explore on the orange tab
  8.  Change your preferences on the orange tab to help you find exactly what you are looking for
    1. "Format" will help you narrow your results to eBooks or audiobooks
    2. "Audience" will allow you to find books according to maturity level
    3. "Availability" will get you books that are ready for check out immediately, or you can browse everything to find books to put on hold.
    4. Preferences are applied every time you explore so make sure to update them if you want something different.

In addition to Libby, we have access to a new e-reader app Simply E!  To access the content please follow these instructions

  1. Download the SimplyE app from the Apple or Google Play store
  2. Open the app
  3. Find your library: Johnson City Library
  4. Search or browse for ebooks (and audiobooks, if you have them)
  5. Click on “Get” when you find the title you want
  6. The first time only, you must type in your library barcode number and PIN (or phone number); this information is now saved
  7. Read (or listen) and enjoy!
